Washington, DC Area Transit Market Share: Before and With Metro: By Jurisdiction: Virginia Sustains Largest Transit Share Loss

More than 90 percent of new demand was for modes other than transit in Virginia (mainly automobiles) |
Transit market share increased from 6.8 percent in the Maryland service area, to 12.3 percent |
DC lost nearly 75,000 workers, and the transit loss was 40,000, or 54 percent. |
As a result, the North of Potomac transit market share (DC and Virginia) dropped from 19.5 percent to 17.2 percent. |
